Schloss, River & Spa — Wachau Valley Escape

Guests arrive in the Wachau Valley and check in at Villa Schönthal, their private retreat surrounded by castle atmosphere, vineyards, river landscapes, and the elegance of one of Austria's most beautiful cultural regions.

The first path leads directly to the castle spa. Guests settle into the rhythm of the Danube with a calm afternoon in the panorama pool, watching ships pass slowly below the valley slopes.

At 18:00, the evening begins with a historical cellar tour in the castle. Guests discover the wine history of the house and taste the first two selected premium wines from the estate.

Dinner is arranged on the castle terrace, where regional cuisine, river views, and a glass of Wachau wine create the first signature moment of the journey.

Around midday, the highlight of the day begins: a private Zille boat tour. For approximately one hour, guests glide across the Danube in a traditional Wachau wooden boat, seeing the ruins of Dürnstein, vineyards, riverbanks, and castle scenery from a spectacular perspective.

On board, a chilled bottle of Schloss wine and Wachauer Laberl create a simple but elegant picnic moment on the river.

After the boat tour, the afternoon belongs to deep relaxation. Guests return to the spa, enjoy a Wachau massage as an optional add-on, or use the private sauna in the villa garden for complete quiet.

In the evening, a table is reserved at the Küffer Keller, the rustic castle dining venue, for a Genuss-Abend with steak from the charcoal grill, regional sides, and full-bodied Austrian red wines.

The morning is deliberately light and flexible. Guests may begin with a small workout in the castle fitness area, or take complimentary bikes through apricot gardens, vineyards, and quiet Wachau paths.

At midday, the Grand Wachau Tasting takes place in the castle cellar. This tasting introduces the famous Wachau quality categories: Steinfeder, Federspiel, and Smaragd. Guests learn how soil, slope, ripeness, grape variety, and regional tradition shape the personality of Wachau wines.

The afternoon is reserved for a final long spa moment — showers, saunas, pools, and relaxation areas until late afternoon.

For a more active version, the day can be upgraded with a guided vineyard walk, e-bike route, or private tasting at an additional top Wachau estate.

After a final castle breakfast, guests enjoy a slow morning in the Wachau Valley. Depending on departure time, a short walk through Dürnstein, a final coffee with Danube views, or a private transfer to Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, or the next destination can be arranged.
